Following the March 26, 2007 general election, the Commission de la représentation électorale (CRE) began working on a new electoral map for Québec, as stipulated in the Election Act. Its work has now been completed with the delivery of a final report in February 2012. The new electoral map entered into force with the calling of the general election on September 4, 2012.
On March 12, 2008, the CRE tabled a preliminary proposal, found in a preliminary report which was the subject of public hearings held in 23 municipalities of Québec between April 21 and June 13, 2008.
